Gelato Messina is a well-known craze amongst city dwellers, one that we accidentally fell upon on an evening stroll last year. The Surry Hills store has huge lines as the post dinner guests arrive and wait to choose their gelato, the later it gets the bigger the lines! The philosophy at Messina is “How would they have made it 100 years ago?” they use the most natural ingredients and make everything from scratch. The very popular apple pie flavour is real apple gelato with homemade apple pie crushed through it, Yum! 6 days a week they have a special flavour which stays in the cabinet for 7 days, so there is always something new, I loved the recent Game of Thrones inspired flavours, you can check the specials on their Facebook page. In the signature flavours, I can’t go past the Italian Nougat or the chocolate fondant. Well worth lining up for and there is a gorgeous park across the road to sit down have a chat and enjoy your gelato.
